<p>For starters, how do you feel?</p>
<p>Do you feel good?<br />
Do you feel like you did &#8216;all that you could have&#8217; this past week?<br />
Are you thinking about any &#8216;cheating&#8217; you did throughout the week?<br />
How does it feel to see your name on our list? Is it Motivating? Uplifting? Depressing?</p>
<p>Remember, it is ONLY THE FIRST WEEK!! We have a lo-o-o-o-o-o-o-ng way to go and One Weigh-In does NOT make-or-break the contest. (It&#8217;s kinda like being a Browns/Indians fan!)<br />
Small steps.</p>
<p>Now, the more important questions:</p>
<p>What kind of goals did you reach this week?<br />
Did you increase your speed on the elliptical or treadmill?<br />
Did you increase your reps or weights on one of the machines?<br />
Did you try a new machine you have never tried before?<br />
Did you explore the internet for helpful websites re: caloric counting or recipe ideas?<br />
Did you ask for help or advice from someone about getting fit?</p>
<p>Always try to look for the POSITIVES!! This will be crucial, especially when there comes the time(s) when you DO GAIN WEIGHT. I will say this time and time again: &#8220;Life Happens.&#8221; You are NOT on &#8216;the Ranch&#8217; like the contestants of the television show. So please don&#8217;t expect big weight losses like you see every week on TV. You have job(s) to do. You have kids to attend to. You have spouses to attend to. (Well, I should say, &#8220;spouse&#8221; but I guess you could be on that polygamy show!) So BE REALISTIC with your expectations.</p>
<p>I am proud of ALL of you. You took the initiative to join the gym, join the contest and to Try Your Best. You ALL are Winners already in my eyes!!</p>

<p>(and I want honest answers!!)</p>
<p>Why did you join the Biggest Loser Contest?</p>
<p>AND</p>
<p>Why did you purchase a membership at the gym in the first place?</p>
<p>Is it to&#8230;<br />
- lose weight?<br />
- gain muscle?<br />
- relieve stress?<br />
- look good for the holidays/reunion/etc.?<br />
- make new friends?<br />
- get out of the house?</p>
<p>(All of the Above??!)</p>
<p>There is no wrong answer. But I want you to be fully aware of WHY you are going to the gym because it might make the difference as to whether or not you obtain the goal(s) you are trying to reach.<span id="more-189"></span></p>
<p>If you have ever watched the Biggest Loser television program, you have seen how many of the contestants want to lose weight so they can live long enough to see their children grow up. This may sound extreme but it goes to show you that Strong, Important Priorities call for Desperate Measures.</p>
<p>Where does losing weight/getting healthy fall in YOUR list of priorities? Is it more important that those beers over the weekend or those nachos during the Steelers game? Is going to the gym more important than sleeping in for 30 more minutes or staying at home and watching Dancing with the Stars? (Don&#8217;t forget, we have televisions at the gym!!)</p>
<p>Think of those popular WWJD bands that some people wear. This little reminder worn on your wrist is supposed to make you stop and ask, &#8220;What would Jesus do?&#8221; before taking action. What kind of similar reminder would work for you in reaching your goal and NOT eating that candy bar or hitting the snooze button? A rubber band around your wrist? A picture of LL Cool J&#8217;s abs or Victoria&#8217;s Secret model Marissa Miller&#8217;s legs placed on your refrigerator? Or maybe have your spouse and/or child ask you each day, &#8220;How was the gym today? How many miles did you walk/run?&#8221;</p>
<p>So Here&#8217;s Your Homework for Today: Find that SOMETHING that will help you remember your priorities.<br />
We want you to find that little &#8216;push&#8217; so you can lose that weight, gain more muscle, relieve your stress, look good for the holidays or for your reunion, make new friends or simply to get out of the house!</p>
<p>Reminder: Tomorrow, Wednesday, September 29th, is our first voluntary weigh-in. I certainly hope you will come in and get weighed. There&#8217;s no shame in finding out you gained weight. (You won&#8217;t be the first nor the last. After all &#8212; Life Happens!!) If anything, gaining weight might be just the thing you need to do some priority-rearranging!!</p>

<p><strong>Welcome Contestants!</strong></p>
<p><em>Whether you are a veteran of the Quick Fit gym or a newcomer, congratulations on taking the first step in getting in shape.  The first step is often the most difficult and you made it!  And now – the fun begins.</em></p>
<p><em>There are 27 contestants (5 men and 22 women) in our fall session of the Biggest Loser.   Some of you have set some pretty big goals while others are just taking one day at a time.  Whatever your plan, please know that we are here to help you on your road to getting fit.  Yes, weight loss is a big part of that, but I want to encourage you to look at this contest as a chance to make a life-style change.  It’s also about positive thinking, eating right and losing inches.</em></p>
<p><em>The first thing I encourage you to do is get a small note book or some sort of log book.  It is very hard to make progress when you don’t know where you started.  Write down EVERYTHING! Repetitions, weight lifted, minutes on a machine, level(s) at which you ran/walked, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY – WHAT YOU EAT!!  All the time in the gym will be for nothing if you go home and stuff yourself with the wrong foods or the wrong amounts of foods.  There are hundreds of websites that can help you track your caloric intake (not to mention proteins, fats, carbs and fibers).  <a rel="nofollow" href="http://livestrong.com/" target="_blank">Livestrong.com</a> is one that Denise and I have used with ease.  And it’s free!  You’re only as good as the fuel you are putting in your tank so find your  own method of keeping track and Go!</em></p>
<p><em>The second thing is Don’t Get Discouraged.  Sure, that is easier said than done.  But it’s all about baby steps.  Nobody is going to lose 10 or 15 pounds in a week like they do on the show, The Biggest Loser.  After all, “Life Happens.”  Look for small successes.  Your pants feeling loser.  Your spouse mentions how good you look.  You can climb a set of stairs a little easier than before.  THOSE successes are going to help motivate you to Keep Trying.  This also goes back to writing things down.  If you do 5 pushups on Monday and the next week, you are able to do 8, That’s Wonderful!!!  Measure your waist, neck, arms and thighs…and see what progress you can make.</em></p>
<p><em>And Finally, Ask For Help!  Find a training partner, ask a Quick Fit employee or find some websites or books that can help you get the most out of your workout.  None of us wants to see you get discouraged or worse – hurt – so don’t be afraid to ask for assistance.  True, this is a contest…but only by name.  We are all in this together in becoming fit, happy people.  With that in mind, ALL of you are ALREADY WINNERS!!</em></p>

Mark Thomas, with a percentage of weight loss of 18.87%!<br />
 <br />
Congratulations, Mark!!  He lost over 40 pounds, including 5.9% in the month of April.  His 1st place prize is $200.<br />
 <br />
2nd place goes to John Thomas, who lost over 45 pounds/17.70%, including 7.82% in the month of April (which gives him a free one-month pass to Quick Fit)&#8230;and his prize of $100.<br />
 <br />
3rd place goes to Daniele Akers, with her 16.58% weight loss.  Losing over 35 lbs. also gets her $50.<br />
 <br />
